Louise Hall
Loss Prevention Manager - London
I left school at 16 years old and joined the
Merchant Navy sailing on mostly container vessels employed on the
Far East and Australasia trade routes. After qualifying and sailing
as a 3rd Navigational Officer I came ashore and have since worked
in mainly operational positions including the roles of a Cargo
Planner, Terminal Planner at Felixstowe Container Terminal and
Operations Superintendent. From 2002 until 2004 I worked for
another P&I Club in their Loss Prevention Department. In
January 2006 I started working for the Shipowners' Club (London
office) in the Loss Prevention Department, initially employed as
Loss Prevention Executive and from 1st July 2010 I
was promoted to Loss Prevention Manager for London.
The principle aim of our Loss Prevention Department is to reduce
incidents that may result in claims, but we are also on hand to
give technical and marine advice when requested to both internal
staff and to brokers and Members as required. One of the main
reasons I joined the Club was for their reputation in market and
the friendly atmosphere.
Since joining the Club I have been encouraged to undertake
further qualifications that may add to my experience and knowledge.
One such course which I have just passed was the "Diploma in Marine
Surveying" with Lloyds Maritime Academy. In addition I have also
attended various courses on; Hull Inspection / Damage and repair,
ISM Lead Auditor, Risk Management as well as a variety of personal
and business skills courses.
