Nicola Dyer
Claims Handler
I initially joined the Shipowners' Club (London
office) as a Secretary as I felt I had progressed as far as I
possibly could in my last place of work and felt that it was time
for a change. I did not know anything about the history of
Shipowners' or P&I Clubs however thought that a job in claims
sounded interesting.
I have been given so much opportunity not only by the Club as a
whole but also my manager and colleagues. They have always ensured
that I have had sufficient time to read through correspondence and
claim documents in order that I could be in a position to fully
understand what is going on and learn what the next steps should
be. I have been sent on various courses both in-house and
externally. I find the in-house workshops very helpful as they are
tailored to be relevant to what we do on a day to day basis. Within
Shipowners' there are a lot of experienced people with a wealth of
knowledge who are always happy to take the time to explain things
to me.
My highlights so far are my promotions from Claims Secretary to
Claims Assistant and then to Claims Handler where I have travelled
to Aberdeen, Belgium, Singapore and Malaysia. I am now part of the
start up team in the Asian office located in Singapore where I am
responsible for handling claims from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand
and Indonesia.
The people that work here are so friendly and I really feel part
of a team so that for me is the most important thing.
To succeed at the Shipowners' Club you need a willingness to
work hard and put effort into training and learning new skills.
