Shipowners - Local Knowldge Global Support

What we do:

With almost a century and a half of expertise in providing protection and indemnity cover for smaller and more specialised craft Shipowners' is one of the oldest Protection & Indemnity Clubs in the world. We have expanded from our origins in the UK to provide cover to shipowners of most nationalities operating in all waters on the globe. In recent decades we have grown steadily, particularly through pioneering the benefits of mutuality for this particular sector of shipping.

Mutuality means that Members are both insurers and insured. The Members' combined calls pay for their combined claims. Joining Shipowners' means getting cover at cost with no margin added for other parties. As a mutual organisation we are non-profit making. Funds may only be used to pay claims or agreed expenses. Any surplus income is put to reserve or, ultimately, returned to Members.

The basic elements of P & I cover may include liability towards:

Personnel, whether they be crew, passengers or others
Collision
Damage to or loss of property
Pollution
Towage
Wreck removal
Cargo
Freight, demurrage and defence

As Members' operations become more complex so we have developed new facilities for wrapping comprehensive liability cover around these basic elements. We can tailor cover to include liability arising from:

Salvage
Wider towage risks
Offshore contracts
Sub-sea operations
Dredging, piledriving, cable laying and other specialised  operations

By underwriting this broad range of specialised risks in-house we can respond to Members and brokers with a swifter, more flexible service.

If you own smaller or more specialised craft, then you should consider Shipowners'. We are the only P & I Club to focus solely on your needs, allowing you to take full advantage of joining a mutual association.
