Surveys: The principle of mutuality on which the Clubs are built is based upon its Members sharing common risks. Claims are shared between the Members of the Club, with each Member contributing according to his own participation in the mutual. For mutuality to operate successfully, similar vessels
should present similar levels of risk. This can only be achieved if
they are manned, equipped and maintained to an acceptable standard.
Shipowners, in common with all other Clubs in the International Group,
operates a vessel inspection programme whose aims include ensuring that
vessels are reaching the basic standards we require, and enabling our
underwriters to fine-tune their assessment of risk.
