Tug And Tow Simulator Course
1st January - 30th June 2011
Singapore (Courses can be arranged between the above
dates)
This initiative was developed as it became apparent when
investigating claims involving tug and tows that they mainly
resulted from the tug and tow units colliding with fixed objects or
other vessels at anchor in congested waters. It was also noted that
the root cause of these incidents could be attributed to
insufficient attention being paid to tides and currents or to the
movement of other vessels within the anchorages.
Therefore the Shipowners' the Club in conjunction with Captain
Hilbert Fernandes of Maritime Education and Training Services Pte
Ltd developed a Tug and Tow Handling Simulator Course.
The course, which can be undertaken in English, Malay and
Indonesian Bahasa, aims to highlight the dangers of operating
line tows in confined waters and within congested port limits. In
addition it aims to assist participants in refreshing their
knowledge of the necessary precautions to be taken to prevent such
incidents from occurring.
The course, suitable for up to eight attendees, would be most
beneficial for senior marine staff as they face these testing
navigational situations on a daily basis.
The course dates are flexible and can be arranged to meet
Member's/Operator's requirements subject to the availability of the
simulator.
This initiative will be of great benefit in an effort to reduce
exposure to tug and tow claims.
Courses are being held at the Maritime & Port
Authority of Singapore's Integrated Simulation Centre, Singapore
Polytechnic: www.smf.com.sg
Members of the Club can take advantage of a reduced cost of S$
2,400 (for 4-8 attendees) and the cost for non-Members is S$ 4,800
(also 4-8 attendees).
