P&I liability insurance for barges
There are many types of barge. They may be simple open hold
barges carrying coal or containers or lighter barges engaged
mid-stream in a busy harbour. They may be semi-submersible, using
the power of buoyancy for heavy lifts. They may hold cranes, lay
pipes or transport unusual objects, or they may house workers for
an oil rig. Given such diversity of operation, we are conscious at
the Shipowners' Club of the importance of working closely with
owners and their brokers to make sure the most appropriate
insurance is in place for the varied risks involved.
We understand the risks faced by barge owners and can ensure
that the most appropriate cover is in place. Chartering out barges
raises important questions about liability for cargo. At Shipowners
we can advise Members on using the correct contracts and
minimising exposure to cargo and property claims.
