P&I liability insurance for dry cargo vessels
Members of the Shipowners' Club carry a vast range of different
dry cargoes from manufactured steels to fruit, from cars to
containers. This is a sector in which our underwriters are highly
selective, particularly with regard to vessel quality,
classification, regional trade and operating standards. While
freight rates fluctuate, so too does the ability of owners to
maintain and expand their fleets. Against this background, the Club
will work alongside owners and their broker. We are always
committed to helping Members keep standards high and claims
low.
We understand the risks involved in the transportation of dry
cargo. We appreciate the importance of knowing each cargo's
characteristics, essential to safe carriage. Economic pressures can
adversely affect stowage practices. Driven by the demand for faster
turnaround in port, vessel operators, especially operators of
feeder vessels, face great difficulty in ensuring that cargoes are
stowed and surveyed correctly and that weight is distributed to
ensure vessel stability and seaworthiness. At the Shipowners'
Club we strive to support our Members with best practice advice in
risk management and loss prevention.
