P&I liability insurance for tankers
Tankers represent a very important section of the membership for
the Shipowners' Club, particularly in south east Asia and the Far
East where we have built long-standing relationships with local
owners, brokers and authorities. Given the high level of
environmental scrutiny of the industries they often serve,
particularly the oil industry, operators develop an acute awareness
of the risks they face.
We support the importance of minimising the impact upon the
environment. It is not surprising that double hulls receive much
attention and this is relevant also for our smaller coastal
tankers. We know that contamination of cargoes can be caused in
many ways and that our tanker Members must maintain high standards
when cleaning, re-stowing, discharging and maintaining their
vessels. We know too, that operators must be vigilant to avoid
collision risks, prevalent for many in bunkering activities. They
may be in and out of port, coming alongside vessels at anchor,
several times a day. We are available to assist our tanker Members
and their brokers, and ensure that they have the most appropriate
P&I insurance cover for their specific operational risks.
