From 1 January 2020, the limit for sulphur in fuel oil on board ships operating outside designated Emission Control Areas (ECAs) will be reduced from 3.50% to 0.50% particulate matter by mass (m/m). The limit will significantly reduce the amount of sulphur oxides emanating from ships into the atmosphere, improving air quality and protecting the environment while benefiting communities living close to ports and coasts.

The Club has created an infographic that answers some of the frequently asked questions about the sulphur limit and also provides recommendations on what Members can do to ensure their vessels meet the new lower sulphur emissions standard.
