The Club would like to bring to Members’ attention recent incidents of piracy reported off the coast of Somalia. After a few years of relatively low piracy related incidents in the region, three cases have been reported within the last month. Two of these incidents have been reported on dhows, the other on a tanker. Members may refer to the website of IMB Piracy Reporting Centre for further details on these incidents and to keep track of latest developments.
We would like to remind our Members to exercise due caution whilst transiting high risk piracy areas and to refer to the most recent version of the Best Management Practices for Protection against Somalia Based Piracy (BMP4) along with the advice provided in IMO circular Piracy and armed robbery against ships.
We also recommend Members consult the following articles, published by the Club, for more information:

The Club wishes to refer Members to updated guidance on Best Management Practices to Deter Piracy and Enhance Security in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea (BMP5) issued in June 2018.
