The Shipowners’ Club has underwritten Yachts for over 25 years and is unique in being the only club to have a Yacht Syndicate with a dedicated Underwriting and Claims presence in both the London and Singapore offices. This specialist syndicate was established in 2014, with its own identity ‘Yachtowners’ and under this brand, the Club was the first P&I provider to publish a plain language, all risks, Yacht Liability policy as an alternative to the traditional Club Rules.
Yachtowners pioneering spirit and desire to assist its Members does not stop there though and it has continued to develop a range of covers that cater specifically for the yacht market. Our separate Personal Accident policy dovetails with our P&I cover and gives our Members access to our claims team in non-fault based situations, providing that additional protection and reassurance in respect of crew members. Our unique Yachtowners Pre-Delivery Liability Policy offers cover for the legal and contractual liabilities that a yacht owner may incur during the construction of their yacht and gives them peace of mind that the Yachtowners claims team, with their extensive experience in this area, will be there to effectively guide them through the minefield.
As a testament to the above, we currently have 2,000 of the world’s superyachts entered with the Club, which equates to almost one-third of this unique fleet. With this, comes a requirement for a distinctive approach to claims handling, and by insuring with Yachtowners, our Members get access to exactly that. As can be seen from the graphic, our dedicated Yachtowners claims team has accumulated vast, yacht specific experience of all types of P&I and Legal Cost Cover (LCC) matters and are on hand 24/7 to ensure our Members’ interests are protected. Our commitment to service does not stop there, and in recognition that many claims in this sector often involve crew and guests, our Yachtowners Members also have access to our newly formed Injury Team, ensuring that relevant specialists are acting for our Members’ best interest when they, their crew or guests need it most.
