- Proud sponsors of the Round Britain eRIB Challenge
Saturday 13 July saw 18-year-old skipper, Harry Besley, set off on a challenge of a lifetime as he attempts to circumnavigate Great Britain in an electric boat named Electra! Stopping off at over 40 locations, this project will allow many supporters to follow Harry’s journey, whilst also providing the opportunity for spectators to take a look at the electric Rigid Inflatable Boat (eRIB) and the various electrical charging options located around the UK.
The aim of this not-for-profit environmental challenge is to aid in the transition to a more sustainable future for leisure and small commercial operators in the marine industry. The progression of electric propulsion systems allows power boat users to seriously consider transitioning to zero emission propulsion, which reduces the use of fossil fuels as well as water and noise pollution.
Recently at Seawork 2024, our Underwriting Director, Ian Edwards, was interviewed regarding the Club’s involvement in the challenge…
“As an insurer of 35,000 vessels worldwide, we have a significant vested interest in the sustainability of the marine industry and any activity which raises awareness of alternative fuel sources is a huge positive.”
There are several ways you can show your support, whether that’s cheering Harry on at a location near you, donating or simply spreading the word!
On behalf of everyone at the Shipowners’ Club, we wish Harry the best of luck and we are incredibly proud to be sponsoring such an amazing initiative.
