We are seeking a Claims Intern to join our Greece office on a fixed-term basis for 12 months. This role is ideal for a recent graduate who is enthusiastic, motivated and keen to learn and develop within a friendly, supportive, and well established insurance organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience within an experienced Claims Consulting Team, where you’ll build practical knowledge while contributing to the delivery of sensitive, responsive, imaginative, and cost-effective claims consulting services. You’ll support Members and Brokers across the Region and work closely with the Greek Office Claims Consulting Team on day-to-day claims activities.

We recognise the business benefits of having a diverse and inclusive community.  We all have something unique to bring to the table and by embracing those differences we seek to build and maintain an environment which attracts and values diversity and where everyone can develop their talents and be themselves. For us, diversity and inclusion goes above and beyond focusing on protected characteristics – we want all our colleagues to bring 100% of themselves to work. With a happy and engaged workforce we all strive to work together to be the best that we can be for the mutual benefit of ourselves and our Members.

About the role:

As a Claims Intern, you’ll gain first-hand experience of how maritime insurance claims are handled in practice. You’ll work closely with experienced claims professionals in our Greece office and receive ongoing guidance and support as you help deliver practical and cost-effective claims solutions for our Members and Brokers.

This internship is designed to give you meaningful exposure to real claims work in a supportive environment, helping you bridge the gap between academic study and professional life in the maritime industry.

What you’ll learn and get involved in:

With guidance and mentoring from the Claims Consulting Team, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Support the handling of claims files under supervision, learning how claims are managed from start to finish.
  • Assist with keeping claims records accurate and up to date in line with Club procedures.
  • Learn how claims are estimated and investigated, including understanding what causes claims and how liabilities are assessed.
  • Help prepare reports and internal documentation, such as agenda notes and notifications.
  • Contribute to loss prevention activities by helping identify trends or recurring issues.
  • Take part in training sessions and on-the-job learning to build your technical knowledge and professional skills.
  • Support senior colleagues with projects and wider Club initiatives.
  • Where appropriate, assist with Legal Costs Cover (LCC) claims and basic legal queries under supervision.
  • Gain insight into how claims, underwriting, and management teams work together within a P&I Club.

What we are looking for:

  • A Law degree or equivalent is required.
  • A Master’s degree in a maritime-related field is required.
  • An interest in maritime, shipping, or insurance law.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work well as part of a team.

What you’ll gain from this internship:

By the end of the internship, you’ll have developed a solid understanding of:

  • How the Shipowners’ Club operates as a mutual insurance association.
  • The systems and processes used to deliver high-quality service to Members.
  • The fundamentals of P&I insurance, reinsurance, and claims handling.
  • How claims are assessed, estimated, and managed in real scenarios.

You’ll also build practical legal and shipping law knowledge across key areas, including charterparties, bills of lading, limitation of liability, the Maritime Labour Convention, passenger liability, and the interaction between hull and P&I cover.

Candidates must be eligible to work in Greece for the duration of the Internship.
