Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 Repository

In this MLC Repository you will find information relevant to the Convention and the advice and documentation we provide to assist you in complying with the new regulations.

With effect from 18 January 2017 ships that are subject to the MLC are required to display certificates issued by an insurer or other financial security provider confirming that insurance or other financial security is in place for liabilities in respect of outstanding wages, repatriation of seafarers and compensation for death or long-term disability. As such, we provide the necessary certification as outlined below.

Our Policy wordings

Club Rules

For Members insured under the Club Rules, we provide the two necessary certificates for display (examples of which appear at Annex 1 and Annex 2), on the basis of the cover provided to you by the Maritime Labour Convention Extension Clause, which appears at Annex 3.

For further guidance and explanation please see our Circular of 10 October 2016.

Plain Language

We also offer a range of non-pooled plain language liability insurance policies for Members operating in certain sectors. If you are insured under any of the following policies this guidance applies to you:

  • Yachtowners yacht liability insurance policy
  • Passenger vessel liability insurance for smaller craft policy
  • Dive boat liability insurance policy

For plain language policies , the provisions of Annex 1b and Annex 2b apply. The basis of the cover appears at Annex 3b (Maritime Labour Convention Certificates Clause) and this will be the Club’s standard position thereafter.

For further explanation and guidance on the above and generally, please see our Circular of 7 November 2016 ‘Maritime Labour Convention 2006 as ammended (MLC)’, update on the Club’s non-pooled plain language insurance policies (e.g. yacht, dive boat, small passenger).

For plain language Members whose policies incepted or had a renewal date prior to the 18 November 2016, Annex 1a and Annex 2a apply. The basis of the cover appears at Annex 3a (Maritime Labour Convention Certificates Clause – Interim).
