The Shipowners' Club can provide legal expenses cover to all Members, whatever their size or trade. We refer to our insurance as Legal Costs Cover (LCC) and not Freight, Demurrage and Defence (FD&D). If a Member requires legal assistance to bring or defend a claim, our insurance can respond, subject to checks on merit, costs and quantum.
In addition to the traditional freight and demurrage claims we handle, we also respond to a range of non-traditional legal claims in jurisdictions across the world. We have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by Members and a breadth of experience to offer Members and their brokers.
As well as our network of correspondent lawyers who specialise in various maritime practice areas, we have a large team of practising in-house lawyers. They are available to assist Members with advice and guidance. Although this cover is offered exclusively to Members of the Club who have P&I insurance, it is available to both owners and charterers; see your broker or contact your underwriter.
